Automated Pipe Container

The Automated Pipe Container (APC), developed by B Robotics W, speeds operations, reduces move-in/move-out time, and lowers costs.

It expedites the transportation of drilling pipes, collars, and casings to/from drill sites, and then, via automation, feeds the tubulars to the Automated Layup & Down Machine (ALDM).

A single APC holds 104 5″ pipes. It’s self unloading and has a skidding system that eliminates the need for a crane.

Offloading an APC from a trailer is a simple process.  Long-stroke hydraulic cylinders fixed to each corner of an APC are rotated to a position beyond the edge of a trailer.  The cylinder rods are extended to the ground, which then lift the APC above the trailer bed, allowing the vehicle to drive away.  The rods are retracted, lowering the APC to the ground. A 360° skidding system at the base of each cylinder rod is engaged to move the APC.

Up to seven APCs can be placed on each side of the ALDM. They are positioned in descending heights using the inclinable frame inside each container, allowing tubulars to roll to/from the ADLM.

The APC operates hands-free, systematically loading/unloading drill pipes, drill collars, and casings. In semi-automated mode, the driller in the drilling cabin activates a switch to complete each step of the process.
